Kitchen owners urged to install under-counter lighting

Homeowners can achieve a better kitchen ambience by installing under-counter lighting, it has been suggested.Interiors specialist Debbie Travis wrote for Yourhome.ca that under-counter options are preferable to the harsh light emitted from widely-used fluorescent lighting.Responding to a reader question, Ms Travis claimed that while fluorescent bulbs are more energy-efficient, their overall effect is not particularly pleasant. She argued that homeowners do not have to put up with this cold blue-white light anymore and instead urged people to consider new market offerings. The manufacturers of fluorescent lights came out with a softer, warmer light to meet the challenge, and you can now find LED lights that have been colour-corrected to provide a beautiful incandescent light, Ms Travis noted.Under-counter lighting truly builds on the design elements of any kitchen.Stylish lighting effects could also be used to enhance the appearance of a stainless steel kitchen sink or set of taps. According to Andrew Leech, director of the National Home Improvement Council, there is currently a generational gap in the UK when it comes to kitchen renovations and other DIY jobs.
