A kitchen designer has explained how the installation of a central kitchen island helped to make one of his makeover projects more functional and contemporary.Simon Thomas, who designed the room for UK company Kitchen Design Centre, noted that the clients in question had wanted to transform their cramped, dark kitchen into a spacious, modern living area. The makeover team therefore expanded the room and added the island to provide both a focal point and extra work space.Mr Thomas said The inspirational way we changed the kitchen was to have a work-top island in the middle of the kitchen. It makes the room feel noticeably more spacious and really unlocks the true potential of the room. We also added a dining area, complete with a television for added space and comfort. The homeowners also had a range of innovative appliances and fixtures installed including a permanent boiling kitchen tap, it was revealed.Earlier this week, Brian Berry of the Federation of Master Builders suggested that the public may require more education on the importance of improving the energy rating of their property.
