Homeowners choose eclectic kitchen features

A couple have created a unique and dramatic kitchen by using a range of eclectic accessories.Bertil and Tracy Jean-Chronberg showed Boston.com around their New England home in the US where the kitchen is combined with an open and inviting living area.To decorate the space, the couple used bright red Ikea kitchen cabinets and imposing fixtures like a Chinese lacquer cabinet and a 200-year-old Canadian wood dining table. The house was originally designed by Eleanor Raymond, who later helped to build the first solar-powered house in New England. Such eco-conscious principles are still felt in the home as the Jean-Chronbergs pointed out that they had installed wool carpets instead of synthetic ones and used environmentally safe paint on the walls.Earlier this month, Sally Bendelow, head of home design at Marks and Spencer, told the Belfast Telegraph that the kitchens status as the focal point of the home would encourage more people to test out new designs this year.
