Homeowners have been instructed to cut their household water use by keeping a close check on taps and especially older models. The Consumer Council for Water (CCW) advised people to give both kitchen and bathroom taps the once over, looking out for any worn washers. The body claimed that by replacing worn washers with functioning ones, water leakage could be avoided and an average 25 litres of water per day could be saved, contributing a substantial saving to household water use.But people carrying out home improvements may wish instead to invest in sturdy and stylish new taps from manufacturers like Franke, Carron Phoenix and Perrin Roe, ensuring a reliable tap that will not wear easily, as well as the slickest stainless steel design around.Placing a brick or other water saving device in the toilets cistern was also identified as a good water-saving tip the CCW calculated that a family of four with typical toilet habits could save 23,000 litres of water every year by doing so.The body added that the UK used more water per person than the European average, while the south-east of England has less available water per person than the Sudan or Syria making water saving initiatives key to future provision.
