Kitchen owners have been offered some expert tips on how to clean wooden items effectively and without damaging them.An article in the Hindustan Times, which features input from Ashok Gupta, owner of furniture retailer Furniture Point, notes that some of the most common problems with wooden furniture are water marks left by mugs or glasses. To combat this, it was recommended that homeowners spread some mayonnaise or oil on a tissue paper, press it lightly on the stain and leave for 15 minutes.Homeowners were also advised to wipe furniture gently when dusting to avoid scratching and to rub it with vinegar before polishing to add shine.Elsewhere, it was suggested that coating furniture with teak oil can provide extra protection, especially if the furniture is to be used outdoors. The tips come after Tim Doherty, a writer for the Hattiesburg American, recently noted that all manner of nasty items can be found stored under the average kitchen sink including anti-freeze, motor oil, paint, rat poison, batteries and brake fluid.
