Welsh Assembly boosts kitchen waste funding

Welsh food waste services are to get a huge boost from 14 million worth of investment, just granted by the Welsh Assembly. Many improvements in waste management and recycling services will benefit from the rise, with a plastic bottle recycling plant planned for construction and local authorities given more resources for kitchen waste collection.Waste management service divisional officer at Swansea Council, Ian Whettleton, said Were delighted to have been given confirmation of the funding. We hope to use it to buy purpose-built collection vehicles that can separate different types of recyclables during one visit. The kitchen waste service is growing in popularity with residents and weve been keen to expand it further. This money will allow us to expand the service much quicker than we had planned, he added. The increased Welsh funding comes hot on the heels of recycling and kitchen waste drives in England, where some local councils have started to offer subsidies for people investing in sink waste disposal units.Products like those offered by In-Sink-Erator allow food waste to be processed and liquified, a practice which, alongside recycling of other non-biodegradable goods, can severely limit environmental footprints in the home.
