Homes in the UK are incredibly environmentally unfriendly, according to George Clarke.The architect and television presenter says there are simple steps that can make older properties more eco-friendly.Presenting at the Ideal Home Show, the Restoration Man star designed a green re-fit of the No.1 Coronation St house.Sustainable living solutions have been incorporated into a traditional post-war property to show how homes can become more energy efficient.George Clark said Weve got 25 million [homes] that are incredibly environmentally unfriendly.Weve done the obvious, with solar panels on the roof, solar thermal panels for hot water, PV (photovoltaic) panels for electricity.Loft insulation is easy to install and is more affordable, he added.The presenter says installing double glazing and changing boilers that are more than 10 years old can also help.Homeowners can also invest in greener kitchen fixtures, such as kitchen sinks made from recycled materials such as clay.In addition, low-flow kitchen taps can help reduce water consumption.
