UK businesses need to cut water waste

UK businesses have been urged to switch off taps after use and to review their water management, in order to make big savings and reduce their environmental impact.Government-funded green solutions firm Envirowise said that UK companies were wasting 310 millions of litres of water every working day, launching a new campaign to curb office waste.Office kitchen sinks and taps were not, however, the primary culprits, with the lions share of excessive water usage identified to be a direct result of flushing toilets. The group said that modest investments of around 25,000 in water management reductions - for flushes and beyond - could bring annual savings of 90,000 annually, as well as boosting the environment by cutting waste.Dr Martin Gibson, programme director of Envirowise, said that the Underwater Office campaign is intended to show in the most visual way possible the staggering amount of water wasted by businesses every day.It is a clarion call to them to save water by taking simple, yet highly-effective action, he added.
