Taps are back to throttle bottle competition

Taps are making a comeback as people turn away from the higher environmental footprint of bottled water, according to the New York Times.Discussing the various ways of achieving water satisfaction, the journal said that thanks to ever-greener consumer trends, plain tap water has become the surprise food fashion of the year.Citing a new habit of restaurants offering up tap water instead of its bottled counterpart, the article discussed the possibilities of the new focus on taps leading to higher popularity for tap technology innovations and even home-fizz production. The inability to get fizzy water from taps was highlighted as a factor keeping bottled water popular, despite concerns of travel miles and plastic land-fill waste added to by lavish consumption of mineral water. However, fizz could be injected into tap water, it is claimed, by the use of siphon bottles which charge the water through a carbon dioxide cartridge that screws into the container, creating home effervescence. While many will not want to go to such lengths to find fizz, the move to tap water and the new emphasis on faucet innovations will be of interest to many looking to cut bottle waste.
