Sustainable kitchen sink countertops on the increase

By Francis Finch While granite countertops around a kitchen sink are still considered the current trend, environmentally-minded property owners may be looking towards more green options, one expert has suggested. According to the Democrat and Chronicle, Gary Pino - owner of interior design company Concept II - commented that one new line of kitchen countertops could become increasingly popular. IceStone, a product made from sustainable materials such as recycled glass and concrete, could be the next big thing in kitchens, he said. Its a quartz-type product, recycled from soda bottles and other glass materials, Mr Pino remarked. Consumers are becoming more aware of the environment, he added, with green products all the rage at the moment. The designer noted bamboo flooring is a particularly popular option because it replenishes quickly. Last month, experts at the UK flooring blog recommended bamboo for kitchens as it is harder than pine, as well as beautiful and elegant.
