Students urged to learn about kitchen care

People whose children are moving into student accommodation this autumn may want to ensure they know about kitchen safety. As part of a campaign to promote household safety to students living in rented accommodation, the National Grid has said people need to be careful. Safety in the home is something we all take for granted and we just need to be a bit more vigilant about it, commented Sarah Harris from the organisation, adding gas and carbon monoxide leaks are something students should be cautious of. Also speaking on behalf of the campaign, James Sutton from the Channel 4 programme Hollyoaks said students are too excited to be away from home to worry about safety. Boilers, heaters and gas cookers should be checked regularly - a tip that may benefit any homeowner or resident. For those who own their home, installing a steaming hot water tap from In-Sink-Erator could reduce the need for a gas stove or electric kettle. A sink accessory such as this can also limit the number of electrical plugs needed in a kitchen statistics from the National Grid show 85 per cent of students would consider having at least five plugs connected to one power point.
