Stainless steel is the most popular finish for appliances, according to research by the National Kitchen and Bath Association, but custom panelling is becoming more common.Its survey of 206 kitchen designers reveals that 91.8 per cent believe that stainless steel is the most popular finish for appliances, but 77.3 per cent report a frequent use of custom panels on appliances to integrate them with cabinets.Appliances most often receiving panelling are dishwashers and refrigerators.The study also shows that granite is the most frequently used material for countertops, followed by quartzite, with tile, granite and glass the top three backsplash materials.Almost all (99.5 per cent) of those questioned said their clients are interested in professional-style appliances as they believe they are a good investment.Premium appliances are the number one dream item according to the results, sought after by 46.2 per cent of homeowners.According to Consumer Reports now is a good time for a kitchen refit because the difficult economic conditions mean contractors are less busy and retailers are offering more deals than ever.
