Spitalfields Market sees the light

Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

Architectural design firm Jestico + Whiles has just completed a light installation to complete the general renovation of Spitalfields Market in central London, reports the Architects Journal. The tall rectangular lights can be programmed over time and are designed to also be used in concert, where the interconnectivity between the installations can be controlled centrally and independently.Lighting canvas was installed as an artistic memory to the first Museum of Kinetic Art in 2006, which was on the site during original building work, funded by developer Ballymore which provided sponsorship for a retail unit to use.The gallery tries to actively encourage the convergence of art and technology, providing an alternative platform to static traditional forms of art such as painting and sculpture.Jestico + Whiles also developed the Princess Diana Memorial Playground in Hyde Park, London in 2002 to provide local children of all ages and abilities with a safe indoor play area.
