A top kitchen designer has claimed that the trend away from solitary confined, cooking areas and towards large, open social hubs is here to stay.A frequent contributor to home specialist publication Kitchen and Bath Design News, kitchen designer Ellen Cheever told Florida information site wftv.com that all aspects of kitchen design were now geared toward making the room multi-functional and welcoming. Recent surveys in the UK found that, as for American home enthusiasts, many British kitchen revamps involve attempts to open out kitchen space by moving bulky appliances out and entertainment systems in with Ms Cheever claiming that the trend was more than just a fad.She told wftv.com that modern kitchens needed to adapt to peoples day to day needs On the week nights, they need to be able to navigate their kitchen quickly when theyre just warming up a simple meal. But on the weekends, they need it to open up enough so they can prepare a fancy gourmet meal and entertain a large group of friends while they are cooking, she added.Changes in approaches to kitchen sinks were also identified, with the designer noting that customers were installing more sinks in trendy kitchen islands, as well as larger farmhouse models along the back wall for major clean ups.
