People may have more money to spend on renovating their kitchen sinks if they opt to use smart meters in their homes. This is because the tools allow homeowners to discover how much energy is being consumed within their properties, meaning that household bills can be lowered, according to the Energy Saving Trust.Despite the advantages of smart meters, a representative from the organisation believes that they still must be used sensibly.David Weatherall, housing strategy manager for the Energy Saving Trust, explained Smart meters are not in themselves smart - they cant cut carbon and bills on their own.The householder has to be engaged enough to take action based on the information theyre given.Recently, a study from MyHammer.co.uk revealed that a higher number of British homeowners are planning DIY improvements this year. The research found that 60 per cent of adults are hoping to complete house alterations during 2011.
