Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

A self-cleaning floor and a rotational cutting board are just some of the innovative concepts from UK design students being featured in the 100 plus best ideas in Electrolux Design Lab 2013. The six inventive appliance concepts have been chosen from 1700 entries. The ideas represent the Inspired Urban Living theme around the areas of Social Cooking, Natural Air and Effortless Cleaning. Some of the key concepts in this years contest include the increase in 3D printing technology, wearable appliance accessories, new approaches to integrated appliance solutions and smart technology in social cooking. More than 100 of the best submissions from 29 countries can be viewed on the Electrolux Design Lab website. Website visitors also have the opportunity to vote for their favourite concepts with the winners, chosen jointly by Electrolux designers and the general public, will compete for the main prize of 5000 Euros and a six-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design centre. Entries include Frisbee by Keira Gwynn, from Swansea Metropolitan University, a one-surface, portable central cooking appliance, and Croc Chop, by Rebecca Jury from University of Huddersfield, a product that gives young children the opportunity to learn to cook in school using a simple pivot mechanism and triangular plastic teeth to chop vegetables safely. Svetozar Belogrozdev from Swansea Metropolitan University has submitted the Electrolux Smart-Floor, a self-cleaning, anti-slip floor with built- in bacteria repellent. A vacuum system installed in the skirting boards, which is powered by solar panels, provides continuous suction. Other entries include Quirk-tails, by William Bristow from Middlesex University, for the modern, urban, domestic environment providing a vast array of fun cocktails, M-Tree, by Chenyu Song from Central Saint Martins, a humidifier design for a household environment and Rota-Cook by Elgan Gruffydd Roberts from Swansea Metropolitan University, a rotational cutting and storage board. All we need now is someone to do the cooking, since the cleaning is taken care of.
