A new design trend is taking the galley kitchen layout and decking it out with a style that combines both beach-side cool and cottage comfort, according to Kitchen and Bath Design News (KBDN).The site highlighted the work of designers to renovate a cramped kitchen with a beach cottage chic style, complementing a galley layout that featured a Franke deep sink as one of its centrepieces.Using a hand-mixed Cottage Yellow colour scheme and exotic woods helped to create a cottagey feel, KBDN said, while knocking out walls and allowing light to enter from the adjacent living rooms 12 windows was intended to create an airy seaside feel all based around a galley design.Leading designer Michael Schallus, who pioneered the design, told the site Ultimately, we chose a galley configuration as a way to maximize space and storage. All kitchens should have enough space to put your work tools and utensils aside and provide more room to work with ease. This kitchen now offers a great deal of storage for items such as pots and pans, bowls, utensils and more.A galley design typically involves one line of adjacent cupboards and appliances with kitchen sinks normally in the middle and separated from the oven by worktop space while a double galley design in a bigger kitchen involves two parallel facing lines.
