Sales of lazy foods like pre-mashed potatoes and chopped vegetables are on the increase. As people become increasingly pushed for time - and reduce the amount of it they spend in the kitchen sink - convenience food manufacturers are capitalising.According to new research conducted by MySupermarket, a food shopping price comparison website, lazy food sales have climbed by 14 per cent over the past 12 months. The firm claims that the average person spends 63 a year on ready-to-use food which is pre-chopped, pre-sliced or already grated.A spokesperson for the price comparison website, Jonny Steel, said Our great-grandparents would be amazed at the kinds of convenience ingredients sweeping the supermarket shelves - pre-chopped onions, ready-grated cheese and even ready-boiled eggs.Foods that were once considered an absurd convenience are now a normal part of our daily routines.Meanwhile, New York Times columnist Kim Severson has claimed that many modern kitchen appliances, such as sink waste disposers or hot water dispensers, have made cooking a much easier task.
