The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) is to hold a conference aimed at generating discussion of energy efficient homebuilding and its implications. With increasing numbers of people paying attention to energy use kitchens, lofts and windows, the Rics conference will bring together ideas in energy efficient home design from the Prince of Wales Foundation for the Built Environment, the European real estate industry and EU Institutions.Conference participants will gather between January 28th and February 1st 2008, as events have been organised in unison with the European Union Sustainable Energy Week.Louis Armstrong, Rics chief executive, said Our conference provides an opportunity for us to share the experiences of our members, who work at all levels of a buildings lifecycle, including construction, refurbishment, facilities management and valuation. He added that political leadership was needed, claiming Although we can provide practical recommendations and professional training to achieve efficient use of energy in the built environment, property professionals cannot act in isolation.Green home improvements are vast in scope, ranging from the simple installation of a waste reducing In-Sink-Erator waste disposal unit, to the fitting of loft and wall installation to prevent heat from unnecessarily escaping.
