They are ideal if you have children or pets and need to clear up a lot of spills as, if one area becomes stained, you only have to replace one tile of carpet. Look for carpet tiles are made from recycled and renewable materials, so represent a good choice and are far preferable to wall-to-wall carpeting which can contain toxins. Install a programmable thermostat which will enable you to control the temperature of your home more efficiently and save you money. If you are out for most of the day, you can programme your thermostat to ensure your home is at the correct temperature when you return. Paint your kitchen with low-VOC paint. VOC stands for volatile organic compounds, which should be avoided as much as possible as they have been linked to headaches, breathing problems and worse. When purchasing new kitchen appliances, opt for those with the highest energy efficiency rating (A highest), which will save you up to 10 per cent on your energy bill whilst being kind to the planet. A stainless steel sink is completely recyclable at the end of itrsquos life too. When designing your kitchen, be sure to include a system for recycling and consider fitting a waste disposal unit to your kitchen sink. Alternatively, you could install a compost bin if you have enough space in your garden or yard.
