Reducing the VAT rate for eco-friendly home improvements could see more homeowners looking to install greener kitchen sinks. The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) is calling for a reduced tax rate for domestic repair, maintenance and improvement works to help lessen carbon emissions in the UK.Low flow kitchen taps and kitchen sinks made from recyclable materials such as clay can help make kitchen designs greener as part of home improvement projects. However, Sustain Worldwide says the VAT cut would have to be delivered alongside education in order to make the measure effective.Gordon Miller, sustainability and communications director of the organisation, said Yes, it would make some difference, but only if it is part of the bigger picture of the green deal and a general increased awareness about the significance of energy efficiency and sustainability.Teaching homeowners about the benefits of eco-friendly home improvements, such as cheaper energy bills, could boost interest in green kitchen designs.
