Recycling body proposes innovative food waste disposal solution

A recycling body in the US has come up with an innovative food waste disposal method that involves putting composting worms under a kitchen sink.In an article for lcsun-news.com, the South Central Solid Waste Authority (SCSWA) notes that while it may seem like a strange idea, worms can perform a valuable recycling function.Worms can recycle your kitchen waste - fruit and vegetable trimmings, tea bags, coffee grounds - into a rich, dark, earth-smelling soil conditioner, it said. You can do it inside or outside. Recycling the organic waste of a household into compost allows you to return badly needed organic matter to the soil.According to the SCSWA, such worm bins do not smell bad and are very low-maintenance.It recommended doing a Google search for worm composting in order to find online instructions, videos and suitable containers to buy.The advice comes after leading woodcare manufacturer Ronseal this week urged homeowners to get their properties winter-fit and weather ready ahead of the seasonal change.
