Peterborough joins war on waste

Peterborough City Council has become the latest regional body to advocate new measures in clamping down on landfill waste.Herefordshire and Worcestershire County Councils have recently introduced subsidies for residents looking to install a sink waste disposal unit from manufacturers such as InSinkErator and Peterborough authorities are now adding their weight to the fight.The citys council has teamed up with UK recycling company Viridor to help firms reduce the amount of waste they send to landfill tips, looking to encourage a new sense of corporate responsibility.A recycling centre in the city has been revamped and businesses encouraged to sign up to services to recycle their food waste, packaging, glass, plastic and other items.Peterborough City Councils cabinet member for environment and community safety, Graham Murphy, told Peterborough Today Businesses in Peterborough have a big part to play in reducing the citys environmental impact.This new service helps them to comply with the new Government regulations on business waste, while increasing recycling rates and reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfill.
