People reluctant to become the micro-generation

Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

Home energy production is receiving attention from green-conscious Brits, but recent months have seen a tail-off in demand, it was claimed. The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR)-run Low Carbon Buildings Programme has seen a recent drop-off in microgeneration grant applications, suggesting limits to the viability of home energy production.People across the UK have recently shown renewed enthusiasm for getting kitchen food waste under control and installing energy efficient lighting, but microgeneration looks to have some way still to go.A spokesperson for BERR said Although demand has fallen since re-launch in May 2007, the rate of householder grant allocations was up in January 2008 following work to promote the remaining funds through the Energy Saving Trusts advice network in late 2007. Nevertheless, on current projections we are likely to see a shortfall in applications and are exploring a range of options for encouraging uptake in grants. To date, the group has committed 7.5 million to 4,900 household microgeneration projects, marking a significant investment in what could prove one of the major resources for fighting climate change in the future.ADNFCR-1321-ID-18476676-ADNFCR
