Jamie Oliver has given his backing to pilot kitchen classroom scheme that is set to get children interested in what happens in the kitchen. The celebrity chef is endorsing the initiative to get more young people into cooking, kitchen design and other activities in the room, for practical as well as career reasons. While most children will not go on to become cooks, the basic skills needed to operate in the kitchen are a vital tool for children.Oxford Church of England Primary School is taking part in the pilot kitchen schem and Jamie Olivers right-hand woman Louise Holland said that it is a fantastic project and a great guide for others. She told the Independent I really feel we have an obligation to teach children how to cook good basic food. It is a life skill every bit as much as reading, writing and arithmetic.Oliver added that he believes you have to do it for yourself to pick up skills in the kitchen.
