People wondering how best to modernise the 1960s kitchen of a multi-million pound house may be few and far between, but those who do could learn some tips from California designer Ione Victoria. Reported in Kitchen and Bath Design News to have been entrusted with the task at a California coastal home, Ione Victoria was faced with various challenges which required innovative kitchen design skills to overcome. As a multi-million pound vacation property, a priority was revamping a cramped kitchen which had received little updating since construction in the 1960s, with the clients expressing their desire for a modern and artful space. One problem was said to be the vastly different height of the husband and wife clients, with the inventive designer getting around the problem by providing appliances and storage space on different levels.Open-beam ceilings are an attractive feature for many home-buyers when casting an eye over the kitchen, but for Ms Victoria this was another potential problem, with the exposure of wires requiring the installation of a monorail system. She told Kitchen and Bath Design News Open-beam ceilings leave no place to hide transformers, outlets and wires, adding that in cases like this, lighting is tricky as the main crossbeam was so high that its light never really reached any surface. The homes magazine praised Ms Victorias stylish innovations, citing the inclusion of a fixtures and sinks from manufacturer Franke as a project highlight in the attempt to modernise the room.ADNFCR-1321-ID-18301501-ADNFCR
