Ofwat introduces tough new water saving targets

The regulatory body for the water industry has announced it will introduce tough new targets for saving water in the home. After what it described as lacklustre performance by water companies, Ofwat is insisting that they help their customers reduce usage by at least 23 million litres every day. This would equate to one litre per property per day across the United Kingdom, which Ofwat says would fill some 3,300 Olympic-size swimming pool each year.Chief executive of Ofwat Regina Finn said Water is an increasingly valuable resource and we all have a responsibility to conserve it. Successes in Europe show that helping households to use water wisely can save significant amounts of water, reducing the need for expensive new sources.Companies will be stretched by these targets, but this is about customers getting a fair deal and using water sustainably. One way kitchen users can save water is by integrating a filter system into their undermount sinks to provide on-demand filtered tap water, thereby reducing the amount than can sometimes be wasted by alternative filtering systems.Ofwat oversees the water industry in the UK, with the aim of incentivising the quality and value of service to consumers.ADNFCR-1321-ID-18890245-ADNFCR
