More people are deciding to improve their homes rather than move, according to a newspaper, which means many people may be considering a new kitchen. The Independent, citing figures from the Land Registry, said this June saw the number of house sales fall by 80 per cent when compared to the previous June. In contrast, the Lloyds TSBs statistics show a 20 per cent increase in the number of people borrowing money to make improvements to their homes. Speaking to the newspaper, Lesley and Philip Dunaway described how imagination could be used when renovating a 1990s-style kitchen. While most of their Grade II-listed two-bedroom apartment in a Regency-period townhouse would have to be renovated in a historically-sensitive manner, the kitchen a modern extension could be decorated in a more modern style.Over three months, the couple installed lacquered black units and stylised appliances, a look that works with the period features in the rest of the home, Mrs Dunaway said. For those looking for a modern look for their kitchens, a range of stylish taps and sinks are available from manufacturers such as Franke and County.
