New Ikea design points to change in kitchen concepts

Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

A new award-winning kitchen design from Ikea could point towards a change in home interior trends, it has been suggested.Reporting from the recent 2011 Interior Design Show in Toronto, The Independent noted that Ikeas showpiece design of a black modern country kitchen had prompted speculation of a change in outlook at the Swedish company.Indeed, the newspaper contrasted the furniture manufacturers traditionally clean, light interior concepts with its new sleek, black set-up, which went on to win the shows Gold booth award. We awarded the prize because it pushed the limits of what you can do with Ikea and it showed that once you bring design thinking into the equation, there is no end to what you can do with the Ikea product, one of the judges, Mazen El-Abdallah, was quoted as saying.Such changes in design outlook could also affect how core fixtures like kitchen sinks and taps are designed and integrated. News of the Toronto show comes after Jaclyn Thorburn, spokeswoman for Buildstore, recently previewed the upcoming National Self Build Renovation Show (February 25th-27th) in Swindon.
