You may always find people in the kitchen at parties but, increasingly in the United States, you will find them cooking there too.US kitchen designers are receiving more requests for communal set-ups within domestic kitchens, including multiple sinks and taps, refrigerators and even cooking hobs.Glen Jarvis, principal of Jarvis Architects, says kitchens are becoming more popular as the main hub of the home.We live in them, he says.To accommodate extra cooks, San Francisco designer David Kensington likes to include extra sinks and keep preparation areas off to the side.In place of the traditional kitchen island, he says more householders are moving in the main family dining table instead.It brings people back into the kitchen and gets people more involved with food, he says.The designer has also noticed a trend in larger sinks.Opt for a larger sink that can accommodate stock pots and roasting pans, he says. I dont think you can beat a really big stainless steel deep under-the-cabinet-mount sink.
