UK home enthusiasts are more eager than ever to engage in household revamps, but experts say that the cost of housing is the only thing holding them back.Research from insurance specialist More Than has indicated that Britains DIY boom is being caged in by ever-higher house prices, with 60 per cent of respondents claiming that pay-outs on houses have left them out-of-pocket for subsequent renovations.Despite the limitations, many are pressing ahead with ambitious kitchen revamps or garden overhauls, with Halifax research showing that as many as 58 per cent of people were engaging with home improvement.The figures from earlier this year also showed that those refusing to be put off by house prices and persevering with DIY were reaping the benefits with many home enthusiasts claiming to have added 5,000 to the value of their property.More Than managing director Mike Holliday-Williams hailed the need for further DIY to be facilitated We are witnessing a new generation of development, where houses and apartments are increasingly standardised both inside and out.The group claimed that many were eager to revamp their homes and give them a unique feel, with DIY enthusiasts often finding new sinks and appliances or even a change of wallpaper can make a big difference.
