A property designer has explained how she was able to give a kitchen and home a modern, eco-friendly makeover on tight finances.Lisa Boone noted that the owners of the home in question had wanted an effective makeover on an Ikea budget.Writing for the Los Angeles Times, she therefore pointed to various cost-saving solutions during the project which included using a sturdy, clean white dining table in the kitchen to serve double duty as a central island.Ms Boone also commented that she had achieved a look of high-end custom cabinetry by creating custom end panels for Ikea cabinets.The money saved by using Ikea cabinets allowed the client to afford more pricey fixtures and appliances as well as Caesarstone countertops, she observed.Last month, Gabrielle Bliss, founder and managing director of BlissHome, suggested that fashion is increasingly influencing home accessories such as in kitchen sink and food prep areas.
