Suggestions of a new risk assessment being added to Home Information Packs (Hips) has caused concern for flood victims, it has emerged.Communities and local government secretary Hazel Blears has suggested that a flood search should be included in Hips in the future, allowing prospective homebuyers to see if their new properties might carry a risk of flooding.Ms Blears said the inclusion of such information was certainly something to consider When people are making one of the biggest investment decisions in their lives, I think access to the fullest possible information is important for them.We need to get it right, so its proportionate. But if a place has been flooded on separate previous occasions, then buyers need to know those circumstances. The comment has provoked concern among some in South Yorkshire, which was badly flooded in 2007, as some homeowners would be made to pay extra to include the information in addition to the costs they incurred repairing flood damage.Around 250 homes in the Leeds area were damaged by the 2007 floods, as well as properties in other towns and cities across the area.
