Men spending more time at the kitchen sink

Celebrity role models may be causing more men to spend time in the kitchen, one expert has suggested. According to Professor Jonathan Gershuny, who heads the Centre for Time Research at Oxford, males are now much more willing to prepare food in the kitchen because of macho chefs like Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre White, the Daily Telegraph reports. He remarked The man in the kitchen is part of a much wider social trend. There has been 40 years of gender equality, but there is another 40 years probably to come. Research conducted by the Professor showed that the average man now spends over half an hour each day cooking food. This is up from just 12 minutes every 24 hours seen in 1961, with modern-day men now dubbed Gastrosexuals. Last month, the Daily Mail reported that a new study by egg company British Lion discovered that more children are at home in the kitchen as they learn to cook for themselves while parents work longer hours during the recession.
