Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

Lighting is responsible for over 20 per cent of the worlds consumption of electricity with much of it consumed in non-domestic applications, it has emerged.Roy Burton, the chief executive officer for LED manufacturer Dialight, made a presentation to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) in Scotland detailing the benefits of lighting changes and their impact on the reduction of CO2 emissions across the globe. He stated that with the governments target of a 60 per cent reduction of the carbon footprint by 2050, it must act now and focus on energy efficiency as well as alternative renewable energy sources.Mr Burton said Energy efficiency gets a lot less attention, but the potential for savings is significant.Wholesale adoption of LED lighting could cut world electricity consumption by 10 per cent - thats a lot of CO2.Future Energy Yorkshire recently reported figures from energy consultants Poyry which suggested that no new oil or coal power stations were needed to meet the energy gap as renewable sources could cope with demand.ADNFCR-1177-ID-18719851-ADNFCR
