If you have a small kitchen, the lighting and lighting accessories you choose can make a big difference to the overall feel, according to HGTV.The home and garden channel states many kitchens have fluorescent lighting which can give objects in the room, including food, a bluish tinge.Hanging pendant lights can be used to counteract this by bathing the eating area in a more appetising colour, it suggests.Homeowners are also advised to consider using incandescent lighting underneath overhead cabinets so that they shine down on the countertops.Fitting incandescent spot lighting which is pointed at kitchen cabinets can increase the shadowing of the space.HGTV states this will give the area greater visual movement through light and dark contrast as opposed to cabinetry simply shown in the cold blue of fluorescent lighting. It also suggests using lighting in the floors may help to create an illusion of space.Previously HGTV stated incorporating glass in a small kitchen can also help to make the room feel more spacious.
