A leading British home designer Nina Campbell has given kitchen DIY enthusiasts some tips on how to get the most from revamping the room without going to extreme measures.Proposing minor tweaking as opposed to major structural change, Ms Campbell told the BBC home design pages, that moderate change was best If you are happy with the positioning of appliances and storage within your kitchen, then a revamp may be more cost-effective than full replacement.Among the minor revamp tips on offer, changes to surfaces featured highly, with the designer advocating repainting or repapering walls, replacing work tops and painting or cladding cupboard doors.Other advice regarded the addition of more modern units to the kitchen, including an updating of appliances and the possible inclusion of new elements like a cooker hood or butchers block to spruce up an older kitchen.Caution was urged, however, in regard to eager DIYers who envisage going beyond surface-renovation and meddling with sinks, taps and electrics without expert help.If you plan to install a brand new kitchen think before you decide to do it yourself because plumbing and electrics are involved, as well as cupboard assembly, Ms Campbell told the BBC, adding that rescuing a botched job could be more expensive than a full installation.
