Families are spending increasing amounts of time in the kitchen, which means it is taking over from other rooms. This is according to home design expert and TV presenter Ty Pennington. The host of Extreme Makeover Home Edition has explained how the kitchen has evolved to take on several functions.Kitchens are no longer reserved for cooking and are opening up to offer dining, homework and relaxation areas. And as the kitchen becomes less of a place for food preparation, homeowners are looking for ways to open up the kitchen to adjacent rooms to create larger spaces for social interaction, he told the Baltimore Sun.Undermount sinks, filter taps and waste disposer units are among some of the features being added to kitchens to improve the experience of users. With the kitchen taking the place of several rooms, homeowners are looking to renovate other areas. For example, a dining room that isnt being used all the time can have other purposes, like an office, because a lot of people are working more from home, Pennington added.
