Homeowners can ensure their kitchens are suitable for children by making a range of simple changes.According to Alicia Gilliam, a writer for Disney FamilyFun magazine, by moving tableware and crockery from upper cabinets to accessible, lower cabinets, children would be able to help out with setting the table or unloading the dishwasher.Ms Gilliam said that the change had worked well with her own children, adding They enjoyed getting more involved, and I felt less like an underappreciated short-order cook.In addition, Ms Gilliam noted that by putting cups within easy reach, children are able to quickly help themselves at the kitchen sink when they want a drink.Among other suggestions, she said that parents could store their kitchen utensils and cutlery in a sturdy bucket to make them easier for children to find when setting the table.Last week, Carole Porter, owner of US design firm Kitchen Arts, told the Issaquah Press that new, ergonomic drawer units are replacing more traditional kitchen cabinets.
