Kitchen tap water has been given the vote over the bottled kind by one organisation in Scotland after it was revealed that Scottish councils have spent over 1 million on commercially packaged H20 in the last year. Suzy Goodsir, co-ordinator at Friends of the Earth Fife, hinted the local authority was harming the environment by continuing to use bottled water, the Fife Press reports. Not only does most of the plastic from purchased water end up in a landfill, she explained, but transporting the fluid all over the country can also contribute to road congestion and pollution. She said The tap water in Fife is safe, healthy and tastes great - so there is no need for bottled water.Fife council has spent approximately 41,000 annually for the last three years on such water. Speaking earlier this week, conservative environment spokesperson Nanette Milne urged the councils to consider their use of public money when purchasing refreshments for staff.
