Kitchen tap adjustments can save huge amounts of water

Concerns about the amount of water wasted by dripping kitchen taps have been highlighted following a dispute about a leak at an administrative building in Canada.Jack Lakey of the Toronto Star noted that water from a leaky tap at the citys Metro Hall has been spilling out from behind a door in a wall and into the street for several months. He commented that such a poor example of water conservation is at odds with Toronto Waters webpage which urges residents to reduce consumption. Indeed, the page states that a dripping kitchen tap can waste up to 55 litres of water in just 24 hours, if not looked after, (which) could add up to 20,075 litres per year.Mr Lakey reported that staff at the building failed to fix the tap after being told of the leak several weeks ago.The problem has created a large puddle outside the building that has streaks of green algae growing in it, he added. It sets a poor example when water is needlessly pouring down a wall of one of the citys main administrative buildings. How many litres would it add up to over a month? said the writer.
