An architect created a functional food preparation area in one of his minimalist home design projects by installing a 10-foot-long island with its own kitchen sink.Thomas Drummond showed the Los Angeles Times around the property, in which the kitchen, dining area and living room all flow together and additional design features are low-key.Clues to Drummonds minimalist design are easy to spot no moldings, decorations or window treatments, and the door jambs are recessed, observed the newspaper. Like the 8-foot-tall sliding glass doors, the windows are aluminum framed with green tinted, energy-saving glass.It was also noted that the kitchen island had been fitted with sleek, honed black granite and that in addition to creating a food preparation zone, it doubles up as a bar area that can seat five people.Meanwhile, a report in the Independent recently suggested that people are increasingly looking to design their homes with kitsch and affordable accessories.
