Kitchen renovators warned against dangerous gas jobs

Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

Hiring unregistered tradesmen to perform gas work can cost a homeowner extra money to rectify mistakes and potentially endanger their life, Gas Safe Register has said.Figures from the organisation reveal that 35 per cent of people would use an unregistered tradesman that had been recommended by a friend, while 12 per cent of people would ask an unregistered friend or relative to perform the gas work.If a boiler is fitted by a gas fitter who isnt registered to do the work, then not only is it putting your life in danger but it could end up costing hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds to rip out and start again, Phill Brewster, national investigations manager at Gas Safe Register, said.He added that homeowners should always check a tradesmans Gas Safe Register ID card and ensure that the engineer is registered for the type of work that is intended to be carried out on the property. The advice comes after a recent survey by Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank revealed that almost 14 million households employed a tradesman to complete work around the home in the last year. This might have included tricky jobs like installing a new kitchen sink or set of taps. ADNFCR-1321-ID-800122326-ADNFCR
