A tour around a dream home in the US has revealed how an imaginative couple transformed their kitchen sink area by using backsplashes and stainless steel appliances.Tom and Cheryl Atkins, who own a real estate investment firm, showed the Baltimore Sun around their four-floor house which dates back to the mid 19th century. In a home where very few luxuries have been overlooked in its rehabilitation, one of the most impressive and stunning updates has been the kitchen in the rear of the main level, reported the newspaper. Here floor-to-ceiling cherry cabinets were found alongside stainless steel appliances for a blend of tradition and modernism. The kitchen sink area was also noted for its new glass backsplashes which were made from recycled bottles. In addition to such touches, the Baltimore Sun reported that the kitchen made use of a ten-foot-long island topped with a slab of light green granite. Such innovative styling was recently promoted by designer Shelley Klingelsmith. She was quoted by Cincinatti.com as saying that mixing different elements and materials in kitchens worked well if done correctly.
