An interior designer added flair to a kitchen design while retaining the visual authenticity of her Georgian home.Jane Thomas told the Scotsman about the project at her holiday home in the Scottish Borders where she had to work under the supervision of the Georgian Society, with whom the building is listed for preservation purposes.Ms Thomas ensured that any additions were in-keeping with the setting, which in the kitchen included a vast stone fireplace and wood burner.Elsewhere in the room, Ms Thomas opted to paint the walls in warm red tones. Thick glass was also used to create useful but unobtrusive and discreet shelving.Ms Thomas described the redesign as traditional with a twist, noting that she had used fabric textures that are well suited to a country house environment, but that featured contemporary colours.Last month, Sally Bendelow, head of home design at Marks and Spencer, told the Belfast Telegraph that the kitchens status as the focal point of the home would encourage more people to test out new designs this year.
