A couple with backgrounds in furniture-making and interior design used their expertise to renovate a dilapidated kitchen.Todd and Marlene Capron showed the New York Times around a two-bedroom apartment that they bought and redesigned as their family home.Remembering how the property had been left to fall into ruin with cracked floorboards and peeling paint, the couple said they drew up new plans for the kitchen upon buying the home and installed lightly-toned cabinets and flooring to make the room comfortable and homely. There is a modern, sunny kitchen with new cabinets and appliances and refinished pale wood floors, the newspaper noted. In addition Ms Thompson bought new appliances and altered the floor plan to ensure that a refrigerator would no longer block access in the room.Discussing kitchen designs with Canada.com, interior designer Jenny Martin recently said that simple and neutral designs allowed scope for reinvention and for new owners to leave their mark on a room.
