A kitchen renovation inspired a couple to makeover their entire home.Ruth Harvey and Barry Murphy told StarTribune.com that the inspiration came when an architect advised them to remove a wall dividing the kitchen and hallway. An I-beam was installed in the attic to provide support in place of the wall.Removing the wall increased the light and flow throughout the first floor of the home and encouraged the architect, Cy Winship, to continue the redesign in the living room.After we opened up the kitchen, Ruth said, I cant look at that stuff [in the old living room], Mr Winship said. So the makeover expanded.In the kitchen, he added a number of functional, modern features including a built-in banquette and a set of sleek countertops to satisfy the couples preference for contemporary, clean lines.Interior designer William MacDonald recently told TheStar.com that homeowners can make their kitchens more trendy by swapping their existing kitchen sinks and taps with burnished copper alternatives.
