The importance of the kitchen as both a source of comfort and a central gathering place means people have continued to upgrade their kitchen space despite the economic climate.According to a report by Kitchen and Bath Design News, homeowners are currently focussing on less costly improvements. These include changing hardware accessories like kitchen taps and cabinet handles. Cosmetic changes such as the replacement of decorative hardware are a common practice today, Jack Frase, president of design firm Alno Inc., told the news provider. The report found that metallic finishes on taps and other hardware items remained popular, with polished chrome, satin nickel and polished nickel among the biggest sellers.Function and ease of use were also highlighted as important considerations for any hardware upgrade with easy-close slide drawers described as the standard in kitchens.Last week, kitchen designer Mary King said while writing for MyTownTalks that cooking areas could be effectively redecorated with simple, affordable updates.
