A homeowner decided to keep her 60-year-old kitchen countertops and backsplash in order to add to the vintage feel in the room.Stacia Hickey told philly.com that she had limited resources when she came to redesign her kitchen. She said that as a result, she had to get creative and learn to live with some of the kitchens older features.Ms Hickey said this had worked out well, giving the kitchen a sense of history that reminded her of the previous generations who had lived in the home.Our counters and backsplash are a cool, authentic red Formica that is in great condition for being 60 years old, she added.Writing for Living Lake Country.com recently, handyman Nick Kerzner said that natural stone countertops like soapstone, granite and marble work particularly well in dramatic kitchen designs. He said that granite countertops are particularly suited to designs that require a lot of what we call motion.
