Kitchen now home of valuables

A new report from insurance specialists has found that the kitchen is now such a central household room that it has become home to peoples most valuable possessions.Cautioning that people were becoming complacent with what they left around, Legal and General found that 73 per cent of Brits kept their most valuable items in the kitchen.Spending more time preparing food at the kitchen sink or chilling out at the kitchen table has meant important valuable items such as keys, post and mobile phones being left on countertops.Ruth Wilkins, head of communications at Legal Generals general insurance business said The look and feel of todays homes is changing to reflect the changing demographics of different households. The items that people leave lying around in their kitchen make an interesting statement about the way people live their lives.While the plethora of valuables adorning kitchens confirm its role as the hub of the household, Ms Wilkins added that leaving any valuables on display increased the risk of burglary.
